I have been wanting to make this sorbet for over a month now but we went to Florida and when we got back I couldn’t find blood oranges anywhere..until last Sunday. So naturally I had to get some to make this as I have been on a bit of a sorbet kick lately…as in daily with sprinkles on top of course.
If you find blood oranges in the supermarket GET THEM and make this sorbet!!!…you will not be disappointed!! (Or save this recipe until next year’s blood orange season…they usually come out around December or January).
This is a cool and refreshing dessert…perfect for dreaming about the warm summer days ahead!
- 3 cups of blood orange juice (from approximately 17 blood oranges)
- 1 tablespoon of finely chopped blood orange zest
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of sugar
- Put granulated sugar, water and watermelon in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar crystals dissolve into the water. Remove mixture from stove and cool.
- 1. Zest the blood oranges.
- 2. Juice the blood oranges.
- 3. In a large bowl, whisk together the juice, simple syrup and zest.
- 4. Pour mixture into the ice cream machine and churn accordingly.
- 5. Transfer mixture to a closed container and freeze overnight.
- 6. Buon Appetito!
