Smoked S’more Cones

June 28, 2016 Leave a Comment

Just in time for July 4th weekend, these cones are hands down my go-to dessert of the summer.  Not only are they a huge hit, they are super easy to make and prep AND require minimal cleanup!  Score!

Smoked Smore Cone

The first time I made these I used my homemade vanilla marshmallows.  However, every time after that I just used store bought mini marshmallows.  While when eating marshmallows by themselves you can definitely taste the difference of homemade versus store bought; when they are in the cone and smoked the difference isn’t as noticeable so if you aren’t up for making your own or low on time just use the store bought ones.

When buying marshmallows, make sure to get the mini marshmallows (not the big ones) as the minis allow you to stuff more marshmallows and chocolate into the cone.  If you only have bigger marshmallows (or you decide to make your own)…I would chop them up into mini marshmallow size pieces.

I also splurged and bought this s’mores cone rack from Sur La Table, but if you didn’t want to spend the money on the rack, you could also wrap each cone in aluminum foil and stick them on the smoker or grill, just keep a close watch on them…they may need less time as they are sitting pretty much directly on top of the heat.

For chocolate, I used chopped Hershey’s bars…the same rules apply here as they did with the marshmallows… the pieces of chocolate should be on the smaller side ..so chop them up!  I have also started using milk chocolate chips instead of the Hershey bars to save me a step in chopping up the chocolate…my chocolate chip of choice are these Ghiradelli’s Milk Chocolate chips.  You should be able to find them at most local grocery stores in the baking aisle for a little cheaper.  Whole Foods also carries them.

To make these s’more cones all you need to do is preheat the smoker to 265 degrees (or if you are using the grill, preheat your grill).  Then while the smoker or grill is heating up, place the cones in the rack…I used Keebler’s sugar cones…

Next, I placed one marshmallow at the bottom of the cone, then threw in a couple pieces of chopped chocolate or milk chocolate chips…and then repeated all way to the top!

And feel free to experiment..I have also used chopped Reeses Peanut Butter Cups instead of chocolate and can imagine Peanut Butter Chips would also taste yummy!

When the smoker (or grill) is heated up, place the rack on the smoker (or grill) for approximately 30 minutes, until the marshmallows are all mushy and look like this…

And of course don’t  forget a scoop of your favorite ice cream on top!  My choice is usually something caramel-y but vanilla, chocolate or any flavor your heart desires would be delicious!

Enjoy!!

Ingredients
  1. 1/4 to 1/2 bag of mini marshmallows
  2. 1/4 to 1/2 bag of milk chocolate chips (or a couple of Hershey's chocolate bars or 1/4 to 1/2 bag of chopped Reeses Peanut butter cups)
  3. 12 sugar cones
  4. your favorite ice cream -optional (I loved Salted Caramel ice cream on top)
Instructions
  1. 1. Preheat smoker to 265 degrees or heat up grill.
  2. 2. Place cones in s'more cone rack.
  3. 3. Place one mini marshmallow at the bottom of each cone.
  4. 4. Top with a few chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate/Reeses). Then put a few mini marshmallows on top.
  5. 5. Repeat until cone is full.
  6. 6. Place filled cones on smoker (or grill) for approximately 30 minutes or until marshmallows are mushy.
  7. 7. Top with your favorite scoop of ice cream and serve!
Notes
  1. If you do not have a s'more cone rack then wrap the filled sugar cones in aluminum foil and place directly on the smoker or grill rack. Just be care to watch the cones as the cooking time may be dramatically less!
