This past weekend was a crazy fun weekend in our household…we had a Harvest potluck Friday, then we hosted a Friendsgiving on Saturday and on Sunday it was my Dad’s Surprise 60th Birthday party….what a weekend! Needless to say I was baking up a storm and have quite a few recipes (and maybe a craft or two) to share with you before Turkey Day on Thursday!
One of the favorite things I made were these cute little turkey rice krispie treats. They look absolutely adorable and tasted delicious too. Not to mention a cute decorative treat for your Thanksgiving table that can be gobbled up after the main event…the perfect turkey day treat (and much easier than making a pie!).
First make your rice krispie treats…
Then take the rice krispie treats out of the pan and aluminum foil and place on a piece of parchment paper on your countertop….
Use a round cookie cutter (I used one 2.75 inches in diameter) sprayed with PAM and cut circles on the rice krispie treats. Make sure to space out the circles before your cut to maximize the number of treats you make!
Using a 9x 13 pan and a 2.75 inch cookie cutter, I was able to make 12 circles.
Next, melt approximately 1/4 of the bag of candy melts either in a double boiler or the microwave. Then place in a plastic piping bag with the end cut off (or in a regular sandwich baggie with the end snipped off).
Attach an unmelted candy melt on each rice krispie treat (using the melted chocolate as the “glue”). Make sure the flat side is facing up:
Then attach 5 candy corns around the top of each candy melt with your chocolate “glue”:
Do the same thing with the eyes and 1/2 of an orange M&M:
Hope you like this turkey day treat as much as I do! Gobble gobble!!
- 5 TBS salted butter
- 10 cups of mini marshmallows
- 6 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal
- 1/2 tsp salt
- bag of candy corn
- bag of chocolate candy melts
- 1 package of edible candy eyes
- 6+ orange M&M's
- 1. Line a 9x13 pan with foil and spray with cooking spray.
- 2. In a large pot over medium low heat melt butter.
- 3. Once butter is melted, add in 8 cups of marshmallows (keep 2 cups aside for later). Stir marshmallows in the butter until just melted. Remove from heat.
- 4. Stir in cereal and salt, until the cereal is evenly coated in the marshmallow mixture.
- 5. Now stir in the remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows.
- 6. Pour the mixture into the pan and press evenly (I used parchment paper sprayed with PAM). Let your treats sit an hour or so before you start cutting them out to let them set.
- 7. Chop orange M&M's in half to create candy turkey noses.
- 8. Now, spray your circle cookie cutter with PAM.
- 9. Cut your circles out of the rice krispie treats and set on a clean sheet of parchment paper. Cover with aluminum foil and set aside.
- 10. Now melt candy melts in a bowl over a pot of bowling water (creating a double boiler situation). Stir until fully melted.
- 11. Snip off a corner of a plastic baggie (or piping bag) with a pair of scissors. Pour melted chocolate into plastic bag.
- 12. Add your candy melts, candy corn, edible eyes and M&M noses with your melted chocolate "glue."
- 13. Let chocolate "glue" dry. Make sure to keep treats covered so they don't dry out!
- 14. Serve (and prepare for your guests to ooh and ahh:) )!
