I meant to post this before Halloween and then I was aiming for Halloween itself and well, clearly I missed both but we had such a great Halloween and loved the mummy treats so I figure better late than never:).
I made these lil mummies for Halloween to go with the little marshmallow candy corn people I had made. These were yummy and easy and definitely a big hit! While I recommend saving this recipe for Halloween next year you can also just make the rice krispie treats with drizzled white chocolate for an anytime of year treat.
In addition to the yummy Halloween treats this weekend, we also had such a great time taking Emma out for her first trick or treating experience!! I had made Emma a robot costume as she LOVES robots but the costume was only a huge hit for maybe 3 seconds…as you can see in the second photo a came of peek-a-boo ensued. Sooo instead Emma was Elsa (from Frozen …if I even needed to add that part). Emma had a blast so that is all that matters and Lawrence and I really loved taking her trick or treating so it was an all around great evening! And who knows, maybe next year she will want to wear the robot costume.
My little Elsa :):
I hope you had a wonderful Halloween and if you have a chance to make the mummy treats…I hope enjoy them as much as we did!

To make the rice krispie mummies first make your krispie treats in a 9 x 13 pan: Then after giving the rice krispies some time to set (at least an hour) cut them into mini rectangles ( I made 16 rectangles…so 4 x 4):Next I piped 2 dots of melted white candy melts on each mini rectangle and then pressed on an edible eye on each chocolate dot. Then I melted the rest of the candy melts and drizzled them over the treats: Voila!
- 5 TBS salted butter
- 10 cups of mini marshmallows
- 6 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 bag of white candy melts
- edible candy eyes
- 2 plastic sandwich bags or pastry piping bags
- 1. Line a 9 x 13 pan with foil and spray with cooking spray.
- 2. In a large pan over medium heat melt butter.
- 3. Once butter is melted, add in 8 cups of marshmallows (keep 2 aside for later). Stir marshmallows in the butter until just melted. Remove from heat.
- 4. Stir in cereal and salt, until the cereal is evenly coated in the marshmallow mixture.
- 5. Now stir in the remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows.
- 6. Pour the mixture into the pan and press evenly (I used wax paper sprayed with PAM). Let your treats sit an hour or so before you start cutting them out to let them set.
- 7. Spray your knife with PAM.
- 8. Cut out the treats into mini rectangles. I made 16 mummies total...so 4 x4.
- 9. Melt a little bit of the white candy melts in a double boiler. And place in a plastic baggie (or a piping bag) with a little hole cut out for the white chocolate.
- 10. Pipe dots of white chocolate on the rice krispie treats for where you would like the eyes to be. Then press an edible eye down where each dot of white chocolate is.
- 11. Next melt the remaining candy melts and place into a new bag and drizzle among the rice krispie treats.
- 12. Let chocolate harden then serve.
