Browned butter is such a foodie buzz word these days. And now I know why…it is delicious…
Flash back 1 week ago when I was in Starbucks and saw it…a browned butter rice krispie treat…yum…it sounded delicious. And it was… so much so that I knew I had to make my own. And that I did.
These treats are super simple to make…the browned butter is just one extra step but it adds an additional depth and dimension to the krispie treat. And it is great for summer as you do not need to turn on your oven to make them!
Before this, I really only made rice krispie treats a few times using the recipe on the side of the Rice Krispies cereal box and never rushed back to make the treats again as I wasn’t a huge fan. But after having that Starbucks rice krispie treat and some rice krispie treats in NYC at Treat House I knew I needed a recipe with more butter and marshmallows to take it to the next level. And this recipe has it and then some. If you were never a rice krispie treat fan then try these and you just may change your mind!
- 5 TBS salted butter
- 10 cups of mini marshmallows
- 6 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1. Line a 8x8 pan with foil and spray with cooking spray.
- 2. In a large pot over medium low heat melt butter. Stir butter constantly until it starts to foam and turn brown – this make take up to 10 minutes or so.
- 3. Once butter is melted and browned immediately add in 8 cups of marshmallows (keep 2 cups aside for later). You do not want to wait around here as you do not want the butter to burn. Stir marshmallows in the browned butter until just melted. Remove from heat.
- 4. Stir in cereal and salt, until the cereal is evenly coated in the marshmallow mixture.
- 5. Now stir in the remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows.
- 6. Pour the mixture into the pan and press evenly (I used my hands sprayed with PAM).
- 7. Allow mixture to cool before cutting into squares.
- *Before cutting the rice krispie treats, I like to spray my knife with PAM to get nicer looking square/rectangle.
- *While the rice krispie treats taste the best the same day you make them, they still taste delicious for a day or two if wrapped/covered well.
