My Dad threw my Mom a surprise birthday party this past weekend. Boy, was it hard to keep something like this from my Mom for months on end…but of course my lips were sealed:).
My Dad had asked for my help with some aspects of the party….so of course I said yes! Although, I had to be sneaky and hide stuff throughout my house so my Mom did not find out or see any of the projects I worked on while she was over each week.
Festive sugar cookie favors were a must for this event…I decided upon sugar cookie “cakes” as my Mom loves dessert and it allowed me to easily incorporate the purple color scheme of the party.
I used my go-to sugar cookie recipe and bought the edible sugar flowers from Whole Sale Sugar Flowers, they are currently out of the flowers I used but they have so many similar options and I was really happy with them…they came quickly and all the flowers were all intact!
In addition to the sugar cookies I also put together my “typical” Wecome/Photo Table…
An up-close shot of the flower arrangements….
And of course I “had” to have some festive straws and
napkins for the event….

We had people bring their baby pictures to play “Guess that Baby.” We hung the baby pictures on ribbons with mini clothespins so people could look at all the pictures while they made their guesses. In addition I made a giant sixty out of photos of my Mom and our family over the years.
My Dad also had someone to do everyone’s Caricatures. It was something fun and exciting…a definite “wow” factor for the party. I had also been
wanting to get a caricature of our family of three as I have one of just Lawrence
and I so I was pretty excited about that:).

The obligatory birthday cake photo…the cake was from Apricots (where the party was held)…Strawberries and Cream with Vanilla buttercream…yum!
And last but not least a shot of the fam (minus Greg and Gabriela…sorry guys you had already left by the time we realized we didn’t have a family photo!).
Happy Birthday Mom!!
