My daughter turned 1 last Sunday. WOW. What a year and how it flew! To honor and celebrate this special occasion we threw her a family party last Saturday at my parent’s house (the first of two parties that is).
The theme for the party was “Cute as a button” because well, she is cute as a button and two, she seems to love them… always playing with them on pillows and people’s sweaters and what not. So I thought the theme was very fitting.
Because this party was held at my parent’s house I decided to make my life a little easier and buy the cake and cookies from my favorite pastry shop up there…Pursuit of Pastry. Since it was a button theme I had them make sugar cookies in the shapes of buttons and decorate the cakes with little buttons.
I also had a little sign that read, “Cute as a button” that I got on Etsy and put a picture of her from her newborn photo shoot. I will probably put the button sign in her nursery as it matches her room perfectly and will be a nice momento of the day.
I reused the table runner I had made for her baptism and the garland from her cake smash. Then I just got some flowers from the supermarket and arranged them (actually my husband did:) ) in a vase to give the table an extra special touch 🙂 .
One of my favorite small touches of the party was having little buttons on the dessert forks and spoons.
We kept the menu really low key and simple and tried to incorporate some of Emma’s favorite foods.
Menu:
Hot dogs (Emma’s favorite)
Hamburgers and Cheeseburgers
Pasta Salad
Greens Salad
Watermelon (Another one of Emma’s favorite’s)
Dessert Menu:
Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream
Red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream
Sugar Cookies
A photo with the birthday girl “blowing out” the candle on her cake! Yum!
All in all a great day with our favorite people:)
